Elections; Hekmatyar, Massoud Registered with IEC

The leader of Hezb-e-Islami Gulbuddin Hekmatyar and The head of Ahmad Shah Massoud Foundation Ahmad Wali Massoud on Saturday went to the election commission headquarter and enrolled themselves to run for 2019 presidential election.

Fazal Hadi Wazin and Qazi Hafiz ul-Rehman Naqi are going to be Hekmatyar’s first and second vice presidents.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Hekmatyar said he will run for president from an independent address, saying that he is not favoring to form alliances with the other parties.
He also rejected the establishment of a federal government as well as a semi-presidential system.
Hekmatyar also slammed the government regarding the existing situation in the country and claimed that the government leadership was to blame for the ongoing violence.

Later today, the head of Ahmad Shah Massoud foundation Ahmad Wali Massoud along with the former minister of the higher education Farida Mohmand and Abdul Latif Nazari went to the election commission and registered themselves as the eleventh candidate to run for president.

So far, Abdul Latif Pedram, Hakim Torsan, Sayed Noorullah Jalili, Enayatullah Hafiz, Zalmay Rassoul, Noorulhaq Ulumi, Faramarz Tamanna, Mohammad Shahab Hakimi, Hanif Atmar, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar and Ahmad Wali Massoud have registered their names to run for upcoming presidential elections.
The registration process for the presidential candidates will close on January 20.
