Mohammad Umer Daudzai, the head of the High Peace Council (HPC) secretariat and president Ghani’s envoy on regional consensus said that the Afghan government will conditionally attend Jeddah peace meeting.
“If there is no guarantee that the Taliban will meet with representatives of the Afghan government, it will not travel to Jeddah,” the head of the HPC secretariat said on Thursday.

This comes as the Taliban representatives refused to directly meet with Afghan delegation in UAE’s Abdu Dhabi peace meeting. Taliban group argue that the Afghan government has no legitimacy and that it is a puppet government.

However, the exact date for the Jeddah summit is not clear yet. The Afghan government says that the peace process must be an Afghan-owned and Afghan-led process.
