Some political figures, parties and political movements in Afghanistan demanded change in the electoral system during a press conference in capital Kabul on Saturday.
These political figures and movements want the election process to be carried out democratically and through biometric technology, asking the election commission to invalidate the electoral registration process.

Mohammad Mohaqiq, Yunus Qanooni, Batur Dostum, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar and some politicians said during a press conference that voter registration process is non-transparent and fraudulent, asking the government to declare this process as “invalid”.
These politicians want the Afghanistan government and Independent Election Commission (IEC) to declare voter registration process invalid and to change the electoral system.

They emphasized the following issues by releasing a 3 article plan.
1- Using biometric technology: we the parties, political movements, and national figures say the current registration process is incomplete, corrupt, and critical due to lack of accurate calculation and non-expert handling of this process. The government and the IEC are wasting the precious time of the people of Afghanistan despite spending millions of dollars. In order to hold a transparent, fair and acceptable election for all political parties, this process should be declared invalid and the registration process should be re-started, using biometric technologies.
2- The second article accentuated the multi-dimensional structure of the election, in which, it guarantees the transparency and the participation of ethnic groups, reducing the crisis, fraud and electoral controversies.
3- The third article emphasized the role of the parties in the election process and monitoring the electoral entities, calling on the government to give a role for political parties in this democratic process.

These politicians warned if their demands are not met, they will use any option to postpone the election process.
Meanwhile, the IEC has announced that invalidating this process is impossible.
