Taliban Involved in Drug Trafficking/ Terrorist Shelters in Pakistan, Unsolved Problem

“Elaborating on the Afghan government’s commitment and efforts for peace, President Ghani said terrorism is threatening both Afghanistan and the United States and joint commitment and efforts are required to tackle this heinous phenomenon,” Arg said in a statement.
President Ghani in response to the question of U.S. senators regarding the reduction of U.S. troops in Afghanistan said the government had come to an agreement on the issue of reduction with the U.S. side as currently, the Afghan forces are bearing the burden of fighting.

On the peace process, the president said opportunities and threats must be carefully evaluated and the Afghan government has the will, the tact and the ability to properly analyze opportunities for lasting peace.

According to the statement, US Senator Lindsey Graham said they would stand with the government and people of Afghanistan to safeguard the shared achievements of both countries.
Graham hailed the peace efforts undertaken by the government of Afghanistan and said the U.S. would provide enduring support for Afghanistan and stand with its people as a strategic ally.
“Haqqani network and other terrorist groups still pose a threat to our common interests and we should fight against them jointly,” Graham added.

During the meeting, President Ghani also said that the Taliban are still involved in drug trafficking.
He further said that we have not seen significant change and practical measure by Pakistan in combating terrorism and Taliban shelters are still an unsolved problem that should be addressed.
