There is No Hidden Issue in Talks with Taliban

The Chief Executive officer Abdullah Abdullah met US Special representative on Afghan peace process Zalmay Khalilzad on Monday while US ambassador to Afghanistan John Bass was present at the meeting as well.

“In our productive meeting, we took stock of the progress and obstacles of the Afghan peace process,” the executive directorate said in a statement.
Khalilzad said that he had discussed with the Taliban about cutting ties with “terrorists” and a withdrawal timetable, but there was no final agreement on the talks.

According to the statement, Mr Khalilzad stressed that inclusive intra-Afghan talks, a cease-fire and reaching peace, with the agreement of all Afghan people, are among the main components of the negotiations and efforts are being made to begin inclusive intra-Afghan talks.
US special envoy said that there is no secret issue in US-Taliban talks and the Afghan people themselves will decide on the future destiny of their country.

This comes as the Afghan government has recently been pessimistic about the US-Taliban talks and sees this as an attempt to bring the Taliban in power as well as the early withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan.
