Former head of presidential office Salam Rahimi has been appointed as president’s special envoy and state minister for peace.

Ashraf Ghani, in a new decree released Saturday, appointed Salam Rahimi as state minister for peace affairs as well as his special envoy.

The appointment comes as the presidential candidates and critics of the government have demanded at least the limitation of authorities over installations within the presidential palace.
