WFP’s New Scandal: Substandard Food Aid and Faulty Medical Kits Sent to Afghanistan

DIDPress: In a shocking revelation, Afghan public health authorities have accused the World Food Programme (WFP) of shipping approximately 6,750 metric tons of low-quality and unusable “Super Cereal” food aid to Afghanistan.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, April 30, officials from the Ministry of Public Health declared that the food items failed to meet essential quality standards, rendering them unsafe for distribution.

The scandal deepens as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) also comes under fire.
UNDP has delivered 650 tuberculosis diagnostic kits that either lacked proper documentation or had expired components, disclosed the Ministry.

In a rare confession, UNDP has acknowledged the error.

The Ministry of Public Health emphasized that the safety and well-being of the Afghan people is non-negotiable, stressing the need for all humanitarian aid to be delivered transparently and in compliance with international standards.

The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to applying Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for the import, production, and registration of medicines, noting that 123 foreign companies and 260 pharmaceutical products have already been approved.

It also highlighted increased support for local production.
