Afghanistan won’t Become Negative Battleground for Global Power Rivalry – Muttaqi

DIDPress: Afghanistan is pursuing a balanced foreign policy and will not become a battleground for global powers, says the acting foreign minister of the caretaker government.

Amir Khan Muttaqi, acting foreign minister of the caretaker government, emphasized in an interview with Aljazeera that Afghanistan seeks a balanced foreign policy and positive engagement with regional and international countries.

“Afghanistan does not want to be a battleground for negative competition among global powers, but rather seeks constructive economic cooperation,” he continued.

Muttaqi described the economic sanctions as unjust, urging the release of Afghanistan’s frozen assets.

Referring to the expansion of relations with neighboring countries such as Iran, China, Turkmenistan, and Russia, he described the removal of the Taliban’s name from Russia’s terrorist list as a positive step.

Mentioning the nationwide security after the U.S. withdrawal, Amir Khan Muttaqi said that Afghanistan now has a centralized and stable government.

The acting foreign minister also evaluated Qatar’s role in the peace process as positive, adding that the Taliban has political representation in 41 countries.
