Afghanistan Ranks 175th in Global Press Freedom Index

DIDPress: According to the 2025 report by Reporters Without Borders, Afghanistan is placed 175th out of 180 countries, reflecting the dire state of media under Taliban rule.

Although Afghanistan has improved by three positions compared to last year, it remains one of the worst countries in the world for media freedom. The country scored only 17.88 out of 100 in the global ranking.

Since returning to power in 2021, the Taliban have severely restricted media freedom, implementing repressive policies that include eliminating media diversity and suppressing journalists, particularly women, which continue to this day.

Reporters Without Borders emphasized that freedom of expression in Afghanistan is increasingly under threat.

Independent journalists, especially women, face intense pressure, and many have been forced to abandon their profession.

Media outlets in Afghanistan are now only permitted to publish content approved by the Taliban government.

This situation is particularly alarming in the country’s security, legal, and economic sectors.
