Taliban’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce Pledges to Create 550,000 Jobs

DIDPress: Nuruddin Azizi, the Taliban’s acting Minister of Industry and Commerce, announced the ministry’s commitment to creating 550,000 job opportunities in Afghanistan.

The statement came after a meeting with Mawlawi Mohammad Zahid Ahmadzai, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs.

Highlighting Afghanistan’s pressing economic challenges, poverty and unemployment as major concerns for citizens, Azizi called for broad cooperation among all institutions to address unemployment.

He also revealed that thousands of acres of land have been allocated for investment purposes, with plans underway for distribution—a move he said could significantly boost employment.

During the meeting, Deputy Minister Ahmadzai reiterated the goals of the upcoming “National Labor Conference,” saying that the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs aims to create job opportunities for approximately 1.5 million people over the next five years.

The meeting comes at a time when, despite various initiatives and planning efforts, unemployment and economic hardships remain among the primary concerns for the Afghanistan population.
