Afghanistan in Darkness: Ban on Images of People in Afghanistan Media

DIDPress: The Taliban have recently banned the publication of images of people in 18 provinces, with plans to extend this prohibition across the entire country soon.

The Taliban have issued a new directive banning the publication of images of people in 18 provinces of Afghanistan, with the restriction set to be enforced in all 34 provinces in the near future.

According to Article 17 of the Taliban’s Law on the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, photographing and publishing images of living beings is completely prohibited.

This measure, previously implemented in 17 provinces, has now been expanded to include Kandahar, Takhar, Badghis, Helmand, Nangarhar, Nuristan, Farah, Nimroz, Badakhshan, Baghlan, Jawzjan, Zabul, Parwan, Kunduz, Bamyan, Daykundi, Faryab, and Panjshir.

The Afghanistan Journalists Center stated in a press release that this ban will have devastating effects on media activities in the country, depriving people of access to vital and essential information.

Given these restrictions, the future of media in Afghanistan is severely threatened, raising significant questions about the right to freedom of expression and access to information in the country.
