Afghanistan Mandates Use of Locally Produced Medicines

DIDPress: All government institutions in Afghanistan are now required to use domestically produced medicines, announced the Taliban government.

Abdul Ghani Baradar, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, said “the use of high-quality local medicines in government agencies has been made mandatory.”

The aim of the decision is to prevent the outflow of foreign currency and to support domestic pharmaceutical manufacturers.

Baradar added that if locally produced medicines meet acceptable quality standards, there is no justification for purchasing foreign alternatives.
