Survey Reveals High Willingness among Afghans to Migrate Legally

DIDPress has recently conducted a survey on the topic of migration among Afghan citizens. The main question posed was: If you had the opportunity to migrate legally, would you leave Afghanistan?

Participants were given three options:
•  Yes
•  No
•  Not sure

The survey results are as follows:
•  60% of respondents said they would leave Afghanistan if legal migration options were available.
•  30% preferred to stay in Afghanistan.
•  10% were uncertain about their decision.

Analysis of the Survey Results
These results reflect a harsh and undeniable reality within Afghanistan society: a strong tendency among people to leave the country if legal avenues exist.

The primary reasons behind this inclination include:
•  Insecurity and political instability
•  Economic crises and widespread unemployment
•  Educational, occupational, and social restrictions, especially for women and youth
•  Lack of a clear outlook for internal improvements

On the other hand, the 30% who chose to remain in Afghanistan may represent a segment of society that still holds hope for positive change or prefers to stay due to family, cultural, or religious ties.
The 10% who selected “Not sure” highlight a significant portion of the population caught between hope and despair, struggling to decide on their future.

This survey once again underscores that migration is not simply an individual choice but the result of structural and crisis-driven conditions in Afghanistan. To reduce this widespread desire to emigrate, fundamental reforms are needed in the areas of security, economy, education, and inclusive national governance.
