Pakistan’s Prisons; New Torture Chambers for Afghan Refugees

DIDPress: Amid intensified house-to-house arrest operations in Pakistan, Afghan refugees have reported violent treatment at the hands of the country’s security forces in prisons and detention centers.

As pressure mounts on Afghan refugees residing in Pakistan, new reports have emerged detailing mistreatment and abuse of these individuals in Pakistani detention facilities.

According to these reports, even refugees with valid legal documentation have faced torture, beatings, and inhumane conditions in custody.

“They beat us severely, took our passports and money, and subjected us to violence both at police stations and in prisons,” said One recently released refugee, identified by the pseudonym Mustafa. “In addition to the abuse, detainees were forced to perform hard labor and cleaning duties under extremely poor sanitary and food conditions,” he added.

Reports also indicate that in some cases, even women and children have not been spared from such mistreatment.
