First European Freight Wagons Arrive in Afghanistan
DIDPress: In a significant development in regional transit and transportation, the first European freight wagons have entered Afghanistan territory after crossing multiple countries and traveling thousands of kilometers by rail.

Engineer Reza Shahryari, Executive Director of Afghanistan Railway Development Consortium, vowed that the first European freight wagons carrying cargo belonging to the UN have arrived at the Rozanak-Herat railway station in western Afghanistan.
According to him, these wagons were loaded in France and, after passing through several European countries’ railway routes, Turkey and the Islamic Republic of Iran, successfully entered Afghanistan territory — located about 60 kilometers deep into the country.
“This is the first time in Afghanistan’s history that European freight wagons have directly entered the country’s soil,” said Shahryari, underlining the importance of this development.
“This route can pave the way for establishing a reliable and fast rail corridor between Europe and Central Asia,” he added.
