Educating Girls Vital for Afghanistan’s Future – EU

DIDPress: On the occasion of World Parents’ Day, the European Union’s office in Afghanistan released a statement emphasizing the importance of equal education for all children, underlining that supporting girls’ education plays a key role in building a brighter future for Afghanistan.

The EU’s message stressed that backing girls’ education is crucial for the country’s development and future stability.

“For a brighter future in Afghanistan, it is our responsibility as parents to support education for all children, both girls and boys,” reads the statement.

The EU office also highlighted the pivotal role families play in raising the next generation, noting that supporting parents in areas such as education, health, and economic opportunities is essential for creating a sustainable and equitable society.

The European body reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating on improving Afghan children’s access to quality education and essential services, warning that in these difficult times, families should not be left alone in the pursuit of their children’s education.

The EU’s message coincides with World Parents’ Day, an annual occasion honoring the vital role of mothers and fathers in nurturing children and advancing societies.

Since the Taliban’s return to power in 2021, widespread restrictions have been imposed on girls’ education in Afghanistan.

Schools above sixth grade and higher education institutions have been closed for girls in most areas, and many families face serious challenges in securing educational opportunities for their children.

The international community has repeatedly urged the acting authorities in Kabul to ensure equal access to education, yet no significant changes turned out in Taliban’s education policies.
