Ancient Baburi and Kushan Artifacts Discovered in Torkham

DIDPress: Remnants of the ancient Baburi and Kushan civilizations have been uncovered in the Torkham region of eastern Afghanistan.

In the latest archaeological findings from eastern Afghanistan, local authorities in Nangarhar province reported the discovery of a historic site in the town of Omari, located in the Torkham area. The site contains relics linked to the ancient Baburi and Kushan civilizations.

According to the Nangarhar governor’s media office, the discovery was made in the vicinity of a refugee camp situated near the busy Torkham border crossing—a location where thousands of people pass daily between Jalalabad and Peshawar.

The uncovered site includes significant findings such as ancient wells, stone structures, and remnants of architectural elements believed to date back to the Baburi and Kushan periods. These civilizations once ruled parts of South Asia and played a prominent role in the region’s rich history.

Local officials said that a formal report has been submitted to Afghanistan’s Ministry of Information and Culture, with a request for the site to be registered as cultural heritage brought under official protection.

Torkham, long known as a major crossing point for migration and trade, may now be on the path to becoming a key archaeological landmark thanks to the recent discovery.
