Afghans Rank Employment as Top Economic Priority Under Interim Government
A recent survey conducted by DIDPress News Agency assessed citizens’ views on the economic priorities of Afghanistan’s caretaker government.

According to the survey findings, employment—with 50% of the votes—ranks highest among the people’s demands. Surprisingly, issues such as reducing inflation and controlling prices received no votes at all.
The full survey results are as follows:
- Employment opportunities: 50%
- Support for Agriculture: 22%
- Attracting Foreign Investment: 14%
- Mining Development: 14%
- Reducing Inflation and Price Control: 0%
Analysis of Results: Employment, the Key to Afghanistan’s Economic Crisis
With poverty, unemployment, and economic insecurity affecting a large portion of Afghanistan society, the majority’s prioritization of employment highlights an urgent need for work, income, and livelihood stability.
Half of the participants believe that without creating job opportunities, other economic programs cannot have a tangible and sustainable impact on people’s lives.
Supporting agriculture is in the second place, which remains the mainstay of livelihoods in rural Afghanistan. This reflects the people’s perspective on revitalizing traditional capacities for economic development and self-sufficiency.
It is notable that important topics such as attracting foreign investment and mining development also ranked next, while reducing inflation and controlling prices did not receive any votes.
This may be due to one of two factors: either the people lack confidence in the interim government’s ability to curb inflation, or they consider challenges like unemployment and poverty far more critical than price fluctuations.
Summary
These statistics send a clear message to the interim government: Public trust in economic improvement will not be achieved unless the creation of employment opportunities is prioritized at the top of economic programs.
On the other hand, strengthening the agricultural sector and the prudent exploitation of mineral resources can also lead to job creation and sustainable development.
