DIDPress: US Senate has passed new legislation removing Syria from its list of state sponsors of terrorism.

This move, taken after years of sanctions and economic pressure on Damascus, signals a potential shift in Washington’s approach toward Syria.
Since 1979, the U.S. had designated Syria as a state sponsor of terrorism—a classification that led to extensive sanctions and contributed to severe economic and social crises in the country.
“We must take a fresh look at the region and make decisions based on today’s realities, not those of the past,” said a member of the Senate.
However, it remains unclear what the next steps will be in terms of future U.S. relations with Syria.
As of now, Syrian officials have not issued a formal response, but statements are expected in the coming days.
