Iran on Brink of Response: Israeli Airstrikes, Assassination of Senior Commanders, and Firm Reactions

DIDPress: In the early hours of Friday, June 13, 2025 , the Zionist regime launched extensive attacks on the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran, targeting multiple locations including Tehran, Natanz, Tabriz, Hamedan, Ilam, Borujerd, Khuzestan, and dozens of other points across the country.

According to Iranian officials, the attacks were a combination of military and terrorist operations. Several senior commanders, nuclear scientists, and a number of civilians — including women and children — were martyred in the assaults.

One of the primary targets of the attacks was the Natanz nuclear facility, which has long been a focal point of tension between Iran and Israel.

Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), issued a statement confirming that Natanz was among the struck sites.
The agency is closely monitoring what he described as a highly concerning situation in Iran, he underlined.

Grossi also confirmed that the IAEA is in direct contact with Iranian officials and agency inspectors inside the country, but refrained from providing further details or political commentary.

In Tehran, numerous areas including Niavaran, Qeytarieh, Mehrabad, Chitgar, the Shahid Chamran and Daqaei housing complexes, Sa’adat Abad, Narmak, Shahrara, and the General Staff Command headquarters were targeted.

Simultaneously, sensitive facilities in Parchin, Arak, Khondab, and military bases in Tabriz, Hamedan, Kermanshah, Borujerd, and Ilam also came under attack.

In Tabriz, Shahid Karimi and Al-Zahra garrisons, along with a radar center in Sardrood, were hit, resulting in two martyrs and six injuries.

Among the most significant casualties were Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, and Major General Hossein Salami, Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) — both recognized as key military leaders in post-revolutionary Iran.

Major General Gholamali Rashid, commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, was also martyred alongside his son.

In addition, prominent nuclear scientists Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi and Fereydoon Abbasi were among those killed.

In an official statement, the IRGC expressed condolences for the martyrdom of Major General Salami and others, warning: “The criminal Zionist regime will pay a heavy price for this atrocity, which was carried out with the full knowledge of the evil rulers of the White House and the terrorist U.S. regime.”

The statement emphasized that the path of these commanders will be pursued with renewed determination by the new generation of Revolutionary Guards and that a “severe and regret-inducing revenge” is on the way.

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, issued a message to the nation, calling the Israeli attack a “heinous crime committed with a bloodstained hand,” and warned that the Zionist regime “must await a harsh punishment.”
“The powerful hand of the Islamic Republic’s armed forces will not let them go unpunished,” he stressed.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Iran, in its own statement, described the assault as “a blatant act of aggression” that led to the martyrdom and injury of civilians — including women and children — as well as top military figures.
It vowed a “crushing and regret-inducing” response by Iran’s military forces.

The Iranian army, meanwhile, declared full combat readiness and announced ongoing aerial confrontations with Israeli aircraft over targeted regions.
Reuters, citing informed Iranian sources, reported that Tehran is preparing a “severe and decisive” response to the Israeli strikes.

Although no official details regarding the timing or nature of the response have been disclosed, sources close to security institutions have confirmed that emergency meetings are underway at the highest levels.
Meanwhile, flights at Imam Khomeini International Airport have been temporarily suspended, and the country is on high alert.
