Alkozai: Wagah Border Closure Severely Damages Afghanistan’s Exports

DIDPress: Ongoing political tensions between India and Pakistan have kept Wagah border closed to Afghan commercial goods, leaving dozens of trucks carrying dried fruits stranded at the border.

Khanjan Alkozai, a board member of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment, said that currently 11 Afghan trucks loaded with export goods are stuck at the Wagah crossing point on the India-Pakistan border.

According to Alkozai, the halt in trade is a direct result of escalating political tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad. If the crisis continues, Afghanistan’s trade route via Wagah will remain blocked.

“This is a significant and direct loss for Afghan traders, particularly for dried fruit exporters, as a major portion of their exports relies on this route,” said Alkozai, expressing concern over the situation.

He added that although regional tensions have slowed down exports to India, discussions are underway to explore alternative trade routes—particularly through air corridors and Central Asia—to maintain commercial ties with India.
