New Doha Process Meeting; Taliban and World Return to Negotiating Table

DIDPress: Doha, the capital of Qatar, will soon host a new round of talks on Afghanistan’s situation. These discussions, held under the framework of the Doha Working Groups, will include representatives from the Taliban’s caretaker government and several international stakeholders in the coming days.

Two Western diplomatic sources based in Doha confirmed that preparations are underway for the second round of private working meetings and the third round of talks focused on counter-narcotics efforts.

A delegation from the Taliban’s caretaker government is also expected to attend.

Roza Otunbayeva, UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, said during UNSC session that these meetings follow decisions made during the third round of the Doha Process.

Stressing the significance of this round, she added that “the goal is to establish a platform for constructive dialogue among relevant parties and facilitate international cooperation to improve Afghanistan’s situation.”

According to Qatar’s Permanent Mission to the UN, the meetings are scheduled for June 30 and July 1, 2025.

The Doha Process remains one of the most critical diplomatic initiatives at the regional and international levels for engaging with Afghanistan after the Taliban’s takeover, attracting increasing attention from key stakeholders in recent months.
