Poll: Ashura – A Cry for Justice Against Oppressors
In a public opinion poll, DIDPress asked its audience: “After Ashura, what is the crucial duty of the people in continuing the path of Imam Hussain (A.S.)?”

According to the results, 67% of participants chose “raising awareness and exposing oppression” as the key duty of the Islamic community after Ashura. This reflects that the majority of people see the core message of Ashura as resistance against tyranny and revealing the true face of oppressors—the very mission that Sayyida Zainab (S.A.) and Imam Zain al-Abidin (A.S.) carried forward after Karbala.
“Supporting the oppressed and deprived ones,” was in the second place, with 17%, echoing the justice-seeking spirit of Ashura and its social philosophy, which emphasizes defending the weak and confronting injustice.
Meanwhile, “raising an aware and resilient generation” came in third with 16%, indicating deep public concern about the future cultural and ideological state of Islamic society.
Notably, options such as “personal and social moral reform” and “maintaining unity among the righteous”—despite their inherent importance—received no votes, suggesting a need for further analysis and evaluation regarding religious and cultural advocacy efforts.
These results demonstrate that people do not view Ashura merely as a historical event but as a guiding light for societal reform, awakening nations, and standing against the oppressors of the time.
