The impersonator also communicated with an American governor and a member of Congress.
According to reports, the individual created a fake voice and sent text messages via the Signal messaging app, successfully gaining the trust of several high-ranking officials and inviting them to continue discussions in a virtual environment.
It is believed that the motive behind this impersonation was to gain access to confidential information or personal accounts of these officials.
The U.S. State Department, during the Trump administration, issued a statement confirming that extensive investigations are underway to identify the perpetrator(s) responsible for this misuse.
