Iran Considering Special Measures for Afghanistani Migrant Elites, Artists, Military Personnel, and Mixed-Status Families

DIDPress: During a visit to Dogharoon border area and discussions with Afghanistani journalists, Zahra Behrouzazar, Iran’s Vice President for Women and Family Affairs, underlined the importance of preserving the dignity of Afghanistani migrants, giving special attention to elites, artists, threatened military personnel, investors, and families with mixed documentation.

Referring to the implementation of the plan for the return of undocumented migrants, she said respect and human dignity of migrants must be preserved even in the final moments of their stay.

Despite few shortcomings, such as lack of midwives in border facilities, provisions like shaded areas, cold water, food, and medical teams are available, added Behrouzazar.

Addressing the sudden increase in migrants following recent regional crisis, she noted that border conditions have improved compared to the past and efforts are underway to ensure a calm and orderly return process.

The Iranian Vice President also stressed that identifying and addressing the situation of Afghanistani elites, artists, and military personnel is a priority.

She called on cultural associations to provide accurate information about migrant artists to facilitate support measures.

According to her, migrants’ belongings are being allowed across the border without inspection or customs procedures, with Iran making every effort to streamline the process.

Regarding families with mixed documentation, a clear directive is expected to be issued in the coming week.
