White House Accuses Taliban of Diverting Humanitarian Aid from Afghanistan People

DIDPress: White House released a report accusing Afghanistan’s caretaker government of obstructing U.S. financial and humanitarian aid from reaching the Afghanistan people, saying Taliban are diverting these resources for their own benefit.

American officials claim to have evidence that the Taliban-led administration has systematically redirected funds from their intended purposes, preventing assistance from reaching vulnerable populations.

Following Donald Trump’s return to power in January 2025, the United States completely halted its aid to Afghanistan—a move that has led to a 40% reduction in international humanitarian assistance and has exacerbated the country’s humanitarian crisis. The decision has resulted in the closure of hundreds of health centers, unemployment for thousands of workers, and the suspension of government salary payments.

Defending its decision, the White House emphasized the necessity of cutting aid, citing the Taliban government’s confiscation of financial resources. However, experts and human rights organizations have warned that such measures place a heavier burden on ordinary Afghanistan citizens, who are already grappling with hunger, disease, and poverty, rather than putting meaningful pressure on the Taliban-led administration.

Meanwhile, the caretaker government has consistently rejected these U.S. accusations, describing them as political pressure tactics and conspiracies against the Kabul administration.
