Mass Arrests of Girls in Shahr-e Naw and West of Kabul

DIDPress: Local sources in Kabul confirmed that forces of the Taliban’s caretaker government launched raids on several areas, including Dasht-e Barchi, Qala-e Fathullah, and Kooche-e Risalat, since Saturday morning, July 19, arresting a number of young girls.

According to an informed source, the Taliban’s caretaker government stopped the passengers of a vehicle in Dasht-e Barchi area and took them, along with several other girls from the western districts of Kabul, to an undisclosed location.

There are also reports that some girls were arrested from inside a beauty salon by Taliban forces and taken to an unknown location.

Although the exact number of detainees remains unclear, it is reported that a significant number of girls have been targeted in these arrests, and their families are in a state of extreme distress and uncertainty.

This comes just two nights after more than 100 women and young girls were arrested in a similar operation in Kabul’s Shahr-e Naw district by Taliban forces.

Despite the scale of these arrests, no official from the caretaker government has yet provided an explanation for these actions.

The recent arrests have sparked widespread domestic and international backlash. Human rights organizations and women’s rights advocates have expressed deep concern, demanding immediate transparency regarding the fate of the detainees and their unconditional release.

Reports indicate that these arrests were carried out without notifying families or presenting any legal warrant, constituting a clear violation of human rights and international law.
