Tehran-Herat Railway Transport to Begin Next Month

DIDPress: Jabbar Ali Zakeri, CEO of Iran Railways, announced in a press conference that railway transport services between Tehran and Herat will commence next month.

Zakeri described the project as a significant step toward enhancing regional transportation, expanding exports, and strengthening economic ties between Iran and Afghanistan.

Iran Railways is working to play a more active role in regional transit and is developing international routes such as Tehran–Ankara, he noted.

The Khaf–Herat railway line, constructed in recent years, represents a key part of the rail link between Iran and Afghanistan. Although some sections within Afghanistan territory remain incomplete, Iranian authorities said they are fully prepared to initiate services on the existing route.

Experts believe that the official launch of railway services could reduce logistical costs and open new opportunities for trade, employment, and economic cooperation between the two countries.

There are also plans to eventually connect Herat, Nimroz, and Kandahar cities to Iran’s Chabahar port via this railway corridor.
