Germany: We do not Recognize Taliban

DID Press: Berlin has no intention of recognizing Taliban caretaker government, says German Ambassador to Russia Graf Lambsdorff in a statement.

Graf Lambsdorff, the German Ambassador to Russia, underlined in a statement that his country has no intention of recognizing the caretaker government.

In this regard, he said that Germany’s position is still based on the Taliban’s governance, especially the severe restrictions imposed on the rights of women and girls.

“We cannot recognize the Taliban due to serious human rights violations and failure to comply with international standards. Berlin will not back down from this decision,” Lambsdorff added.

The German ambassador also noted that currently Russia is the only country that has deviated from the international consensus and recognized the caretaker government.

Germany has established technical contacts with the Taliban through designated channels and does not see a need for Russian cooperation in this regard, he continued.
