Poll: Doubts and Disagreements About Deporting Migrants from Europe

DID Press: According to a new poll, views on the deportation of Afghanistan migrants from European countries are almost evenly divided between those in favor and those against. The poll asked the question, “Do you consider the deportation of Afghanistan migrants from European countries a fair decision?” and provided participants with four options.

According to the results:

45 percent of participants believe that “every country has the right to return illegal migrants.”

44 percent said that “returning migrants to Afghanistan would endanger their lives.”

11 percent responded that “it depends on the situation of the migrant.”

None of the respondents chose the option “I don’t have enough information to answer.”

The poll was conducted as the issue of immigration and deportation of migrants, especially Afghanistan nationals, has once again become a hot topic in many European countries. Germany recently announced that it has begun the process of deporting some Afghanistani migrants with criminal records, a decision that has been taken for the first time since the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan.

In contrast, human rights organizations have repeatedly warned against the forced return of Afghan migrants, saying that the security, legal and social conditions in Afghanistan are not suitable for accepting returning migrants. These organizations emphasize that the return of people who have applied for asylum in European countries should be based on individual assessments and full respect for human rights principles.

Migration analysts also believe that although countries have the legal right to return migrants without legal residence, in the case of Afghanistan in particular, the specific circumstances of the country must be taken into account, including the lack of adequate security, extensive legal restrictions and serious risks for returnees.

The results of this poll show that society is somewhat divided on this issue, and there is no definitive or unified view on the deportation of immigrants. The high percentage of opponents of deportation reflects widespread concern about the human condition of returnees, while supporters mainly emphasize the sovereignty aspects and the rights of countries to determine their own immigration policy
