Taliban ensures Uzbekistan-Islamabad railway security on Afghanistan soil

DID Press: During the recent visit of Pakistani Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar to Kabul, Taliban caretaker government pledged they will ensure complete security of the Uzbekistan-Islamabad railway route within Afghanistan territory.

According to DID Press, this commitment was part of official talks between the Taliban caretaker government and Pakistani officials on developing regional cooperation and strengthening joint infrastructure projects.

The Pakistani newspaper Dawn quoted Hanif Abbasi, the country’s Minister of Railways, as saying that the Taliban declared its full support for “Trans-Afghan Railway” project. “In a meeting with our foreign minister, the Taliban emphasized ensuring complete security for this railway route on Afghan soil,” Abbasi added.

The 850-kilometer-long Trans-Afghan Railway project is set to connect Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, and play an important role in strengthening regional connectivity and facilitating trade.

Although further details about the project’s implementation timeline or the terms of the agreement have not been released, it appears that these negotiations are part of joint efforts between Kabul and Islamabad to expand economic and transportation cooperation in Central Asia
