Muttaqi to visit Pakistan in August

DID Press: Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting foreign minister of the Taliban caretaker government, is scheduled to visit Pakistan on 5 August, on an official three-day visit, reported news sources. The visit is planned to hold extensive talks on important bilateral issues.

Pakistani journalist Tahir Khan confirmed the news, saying Muttaqi will meet with high-ranking Pakistani military and civilian officials during the visit. Meetings with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Deputy PM and FM Ishaq Dar are among the key meetings during the visit.

Sources also reported that Amir Khan Muttaqi is scheduled to speak at the Islamabad Institute for Strategic Studies (ISSI). Muttaqi is scheduled to explain the four-year policies of the Taliban caretaker government and answer questions at the meeting.

This is Muttaqi’s first official visit to Pakistan since May 2023. Earlier, Ishaq Dar had invited Muttaqi to visit Islamabad during his April visit to Kabul.

Despite these reports, a spokesperson for the Pakistani Foreign Ministry refused to officially confirm the visit.

Meanwhile, a delegation of Taliban government officials from various ministries is currently in Islamabad and talks on border and security issues are underway with Pakistani officials.

Reports suggest that bilateral relations between Kabul and Islamabad have shown signs of improvement in recent weeks
