Abdul Latif Nazari: Afghanistan’s Economy Independent from International Aid

DID Press: In response to a recent report by the U.S. Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR), Afghanistan’s Ministry of Economy said the country’s economy is not dependent on foreign aid.

Abdul Latif Nazari, the Technical Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Economy, addressed the SIGAR report in his latest statements.

He said that Afghanistan’s economy does not rely on international assistance, adding: “We trust our internal capacities and can continue economic growth without relying on foreign aid.”

The remarks come while SIGAR, in its latest report to the U.S. Congress, pointed out that Afghanistan’s monetary stability and the functioning of its central bank depend on U.S. dollar cash shipments provided by the United Nations.

The report raised concerns about Afghanistan’s economic future and has questioned the country’s sustainability if international aid is halted.

Nazari also emphasized the importance of strengthening domestic economic sectors and creating job opportunities. He announced that the Ministry of Economy is working to reduce dependence on foreign aid by improving economic conditions and increasing domestic production.
