Operational Phase of Aynak Copper Mine Project Launched in Logar

DID Press: As the technical stages of Aynak copper mining project in Logar Province now finalized, the Chinese company MCC announced the commencement of the mine’s operational phase.

Following the completion of technical procedures, MCC (Metallurgical Corporation of China) declared that the operational phase of the Aynak copper mine has just begun. This stage is expected to create over 15,000 direct and indirect job opportunities.

Local officials from the caretaker government in Logar, during a meeting, said that this project will play a significant role in Afghanistan’s economic growth and development.

Wang Jiqing, Chairman of the Chinese company’s board, said at the meeting that the technical and administrative obstacles to the project have been resolved, paving the way for practical extraction operations.

“With the start of the operational phase, over 15,000 job opportunities are expected to be created, which will have a positive impact on the economic conditions and livelihoods of local residents,” he added.

Mohammad Anwar Dinparwar, Deputy Governor of Logar under the caretaker government, also expressed satisfaction with the project’s progress during the meeting, emphasizing that the caretaker government remains committed to its obligations and that cooperation between governmental bodies and the investor company will continue.

“This project is one of the priorities of the [Taliban] government, and no efforts will be spared to facilitate the work process,” he said.

Aynak is considered one of Afghanistan’s largest mineral resources and has substantial potential to impact the national economy.

The initial contract for mining Aynak was signed in 2008 between the previous government and the Chinese company MCC, but due to security, environmental, and political challenges, the project’s implementation had been stalled for years.

According to the Economic Deputy of the Prime Minister’s Office under the caretaker government, extraction of this mine could generate millions of dollars in revenue for Afghanistan.

Officials from the caretaker government announced at the event that with the improvement of the security situation and increased economic cooperation between Afghanistan and China, the project has now entered a new phase
