Senior IOM Officials Visit Afghanistan, Warn of Migrants’ Critical Situation

DID Press: Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), accompanied by the Organization’s Regional Director, arrived in Afghanistan to strengthen coordination efforts aimed at addressing the challenges facing migrants.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the IOM reported that thousands of Afghanistani migrants are returning to the country every day, many bringing with themselves a few personal belongings.

The Organization described the migrants’ situation as critical, noting that its reception and transit centers in Afghanistan are currently operating at full capacity.

According to the statement, the IOM and its partners are currently able to provide assistance to only one out of every ten people in need.
