US Envoy Witkoff in Moscow for Talks with Russian Leaders on Ukraine

DID Press: U.S. Special Envoy for Middle Eastern Affairs Steve Witkoff arrived in Moscow on Wednesday, August 6, for talks with senior Russian officials over the war in Ukraine.

According to DID Press, citing Reuters, a well‑informed source confirmed that Witkoff will meet with “Russian leadership” during the visit.

Tammy Bruce, spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State, had earlier announced Witkoff’s trip to Russia this week but declined to provide further details, including the meeting agenda.

The visit comes as the ten‑day deadline set by Donald Trump for ending the Ukraine war is will expire on Friday.

Despite earlier verbal threats and even the deployment of a nuclear submarine to the region, Trump has since adopted a different stance, emphasizing that he does not intend to engage in military conflict with Russia.

Analysts say that, given this apparent back‑pedaling, Trump is seeking to project deterrence through aggressive rhetoric to safeguard U.S. interests—but that such volatility rarely gives meaningful change
