Tatarstan Official in Kabul: Ready to Invest in Panjshir-to-Kabul Water Transfer Project

DID Press: Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs of the Taliban’s caretaker government, met with Oleg Vladimirovich Korobchenko, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade of the Republic of Tatarstan, to discuss expanding economic cooperation and joint investments between Kabul and Kazan.

The meeting, held on Tuesday (August 5) at the Presidential Palace, Mullah Baradar express appreciation for Russia’s move to recognize the Islamic Emirate, saying, “This step has opened a new chapter in diplomatic relations between the two countries.”

“The Republic of Tatarstan can invest in the construction of roads, dams, chemical industries, and the water transfer project from the Panjshir River to Kabul,” he added.

Korobchenko stressed that following the recognition of the Islamic Emirate, “extensive facilities have been created for engagement between Tatarstan and Afghanistan.”

He announced, “we are ready to invest in the Panjshir-to-Kabul water transfer project and other sectors.”

Officials from Tatarstan’s industrial companies also took part in the visit and expressed interest in initiating economic cooperation with Afghanistan.
