Indonesia Donates $3.5 Million to Support School Feeding in Afghanistan
DID Press: United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) welcomed a generous contribution of USD 3.5 million from the Government of Indonesia to bolster school feeding programmes across Afghanistan.

The contribution will allow WFP to procure over 1,200 metric tons of fortified biscuits, which will be distributed over the next three months to approximately 200,000 primary school students, both girls and boys, throughout the country.
“For many children, the snack they receive during the first school break is their only nutritious meal of the day. It provides them with the energy needed to stay healthy, focus, and learn,” said Mutinta Chimuka, WFP Deputy Country Director in Afghanistan.
WFP’s school feeding programme, which has been operational in Afghanistan for more than two decades, aims to connect food security with improved education outcomes—especially in underserved and vulnerable communities.
According to WFP, the programme has delivered tangible results: school enrollment increased by nearly 11% in 2024 compared to 2023, and average classroom attendance has reached 87%, surpassing the agency’s own performance targets.
