European Parliamentary Groups Urge Immediate EU Action in Gaza
DID Press: Leaders of the Socialist, Left, and Green groups in the European Parliament accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza. They called on the EU to take urgent and decisive action to end the humanitarian crisis in the region.

In an open letter addressed to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President António Costa, and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas, the group leaders condemned Israel’s actions and criticized the EU’s silence and inaction.
“There is clear evidence that a genocide is taking place in Gaza. This situation can no longer be treated merely as an emergency,” reads the letter.
The appeal was signed by Iratxe García (Leader of the Socialists and Democrats), Terry Reintke and Bas Eickhout (Leaders of the Greens), and Martin Schirdewan and Manon Aubry (Leaders of The Left). “We can no longer tolerate further delay and bloodshed. History will not forgive silence in the face of collective suffering or impunity for crimes,” warns the letter.
The three groups have called for the immediate suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement, the imposition of targeted sanctions, and the partial suspension of joint scientific projects under the “Horizon Europe” framework involving Israel.
While the European Commission had previously proposed suspending parts of Israel’s participation in the Horizon program, that proposal has faced opposition from member states including Austria and Hungary, as well as hesitancy from Germany, Italy, and Lithuania.
These developments come as the EU struggles to form a unified stance on the Gaza conflict due to internal divisions—between governments supporting Israel and mounting public and human rights pressure demanding a firm condemnation of its actions
