India Hands Over Afghanistan Consulate in Hyderabad to Taliban caretaker Government
DID Press: Indian Government has transferred management of Afghanistan’s consulate in Hyderabad to Taliban caretaker government. This move comes despite India not formally recognizing the Taliban government, while maintaining only limited diplomatic relations with the group.

According to diplomatic sources, the Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs appointed Mohammad Rahman as its diplomat in this consulate.
Indian media have reported that Mohammad Rahman assumed responsibility for the post in June 2025.
Meanwhile, Sayed Mohammad Ebrahimkhil, the former Consul General during the Republic era, has been reassigned to the Afghanistani Embassy in New Delhi, where he continues his work.
An Indian official told the IANS news agency that these appointments indicate the Taliban’s willingness to maintain diplomatic engagement with New Delhi. The official also noted that the Taliban might take control of the Afghanistani Embassy in New Delhi by the end of this year. At present, Sayed Mohammad Ebrahimkhil serves as the embassy’s acting head.
Over the past four years, India has maintained close contact with the Taliban’s caretaker administration but has yet to officially recognize the group
