Sweden, Afghanistan to Issue Substitute Documents for Afghanistani Migrants

DID Press: Afghanistan Embassy in Stockholm announced that it has reached a deal with the Swedish Migration Agency to issue travel documents or alien passports for Afghanistani migrants in Sweden who hold political asylum, social protection, or work permits.

This agreement follows Sweden’s controversial decision to stop accepting renewed Afghanistani passports as of October 1, 2025.

According to the Afghanistan Embassy, during an official meeting with the Head of the Legal Department at the Migration Agency, concerns from the Afghanistani migrant community were raised, and solutions were discussed to prevent an identity and legal crisis.
