AJU: Killing Al Jazeera Journalists in Gaza Constitutes War Crime

DID Press: Afghanistan Free Journalists’ Union (AJU) condemned the targeted killing of five Al Jazeera journalists and cameramen by Israeli forces in Gaza, saying it is a “blatant violation of international humanitarian law” and a “clear war crime.”

In a statement issued Monday, the union said attacking journalists during wartime is an attempt to silence the truth and block free access to information. It urged an immediate, impartial international investigation and prosecution of those responsible.

The Israeli army has admitted to targeting Al Jazeera journalist Anas Jamal Al-Sharif, alleging he was a Hamas member—a claim Al Jazeera strongly denies, describing the killings as state terrorism and an attack on press freedom. The network said Al-Sharif and his colleagues were among the last voices reporting Gaza’s grim reality to the world.
