DID Press: Sheikh Naiem Qassem, Deputy Secretary-General of Hezbollah in Lebanon, reaffirmed the movement’s role in defending the country and countering Israeli aggression, warning that the government’s proposed plan to disarm the resistance is a dangerous step driven by U.S. pressure. He cautioned that such a move would pave the way for Israeli dominance over Lebanon and held the government directly responsible for any resulting tension or conflict.

Qassem expressed deep appreciation for Iran’s longstanding and comprehensive support for Hezbollah throughout its years of resistance, saying: “Iran remains, and will continue to remain, by our side with all its capabilities.” He further announced that Hezbollah, together with its ally, the Amal Movement, has decided to temporarily postpone planned protest rallies to maintain internal stability and allow room for dialogue with the government.
However, he stressed that, if necessary, the Lebanese people are prepared to defend their nation and resist foreign interference. His remarks come as the Lebanese army has been tasked with drafting a plan to fully disarm the resistance by the end of the current calendar year—a measure that experts warn will undermine Lebanon’s security and leave Israel as the primary beneficiary.
