DID Press: U.S. President Donald Trump, following his meeting with Vladimir Putin in Alaska, announced “significant progress” in negotiations over peace in Ukraine, saying a potential trilateral meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky could also take place.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump stressed that the talks with Putin had been “very good,” noting that the two sides had reached agreement on many issues, with only one or two key points of contention remaining. He added that the final decision on any agreement would rest with Zelensky and European countries.
At the same time, Kremlin described the atmosphere of talks as “very positive.” Dmitry Peskov, Putin’s spokesman, said the discussion between the two leaders had created a basis for exploring peaceful options. According to him, after the meeting, Trump and Putin issued only a general statement instead of answering questions of reporters.
Nevertheless, the three-hour Alaska meeting ended without any formal agreement. The status of Ukraine’s occupied territories remains a sticking point and has become the chief concern of Western allies. Trump had previously made clear that this issue must be resolved directly between Moscow and Kyiv, while his role was merely to facilitate dialogue.
Putin, in a press conference, also emphasized that lasting peace depends on “addressing Russia’s legitimate concerns and restoring the security balance in Europe.”
The key question now is whether these negotiations can bring Russia and Ukraine back to the negotiating table—a matter likely to become clearer in the coming weeks.
