Afghanistan’s Trade Deficit Persists as Exports Reach $104M against $1.19B in Imports

DID Press: National Statistics and Information Authority of the caretaker government announced that the country’s export value in July reached $104 million, whereas in the June of the same year it was only $63.1 million.

Officials from the authority vowed Monday (August 18), that an analysis of the figures shows the country’s exports in July increased by $40.9 million compared to June.

At the same time, Afghanistan’s imports also grew in July, reaching $1.191 billion.This is while imports in June were recorded at $937.2 million.

“A comparison of the figures shows that the value of the country’s imports in July increased by $253.9 million compared to June,” the National Statistics Authority added.

According to the statistics, the largest exports from Afghanistan in July were to Pakistan, India, and Tajikistan, while the largest imports came from Iran, China, and Pakistan.

It is worth noting that these statistics include both primary and re-exported goods, and for imports, both product and non-product items are counted without including the value of electricity imports.
