Iran Says Recognition of Taliban Government Is a Sovereign Decision
DID Press: Spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that any decision on recognizing the Taliban government will be made based on the country’s national interests and sovereign authority.

Esmaeil Baqaei, speaking at his weekly press briefing, emphasized that the question of recognizing the interim Taliban administration falls under Iran’s sovereign decision-making and will be addressed according to national priorities.
Highlighting Iran’s ongoing engagement with Afghanistan, Baqaei noted the historical ties, long shared borders, and current challenges between the two countries. “The Islamic Republic of Iran remains in contact and dialogue with Afghanistani authorities,” he said.
He added, “Whenever Iran’s national interests require it, the necessary decisions regarding the recognition of the Taliban will be taken.”
