Independence Needs Unity, Strong Government, says Afghanistan’s Acting Leaders
DID Press: Leaders of Afghanistan’s Caretaker government marked the 106th anniversary of the country’s independence by warning that freedom will not last without national unity and a strong government.

Speaking at the ceremony, Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi said independence must be safeguarded through clear principles and strong security forces, warning that negligence may lead to division and renewed occupation.
Acting Defense Minister Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid echoed the call for collective responsibility, urging citizens to resist conspiracies aimed at creating rifts between the people and the government.
Abdul Haq Wasiq, head of intelligence, declared Afghanistan “stronger than ever,” stressing that no foreign power will be allowed to interfere in internal affairs. He said the security situation is stable and there is armed opposition.
Chief of Army Staff Qari Fasihuddin Fitrat insisted that Afghanistan people have never bowed to oppression and are ready to make sacrifices to protect their independence.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar said that independence celebrations should go beyond symbolism, urging investment in modern education and technology as key to long-term sovereignty.
Officials concluded by warning that preserving independence demands constant effort, national unity, and strong governance to withstand internal and external threats.
