Israel Approves “E1” Settlement Plan in East Jerusalem

DID Press: The Israeli regime has officially approved the implementation of the “E1” settlement plan in occupied East Jerusalem, a project that had been suspended for some time.

The plan, pushed forward under pressure from Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, includes the construction of more than 3,400 housing units aimed at linking the Ma’ale Adumim settlement to Jerusalem.

Experts warn that this move would divide the West Bank into two parts, isolate East Jerusalem, and make the establishment of a contiguous Palestinian state nearly impossible.

Smotrich has described the plan as a means of “burying” the idea of a Palestinian state and solidifying Israeli sovereignty.

The project also threatens Bedouin communities such as Khan al-Ahmar and will result in the confiscation of around 3,000 dunams of Palestinian land.
