Afghanistan on Verge of Joining CPEC

DID Press: As efforts to expand regional cooperation intensify, China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has the potential to transform Afghanistan into one of the key hubs for transit and trade in the region.

Zafar Iqbal, President of the China–Pakistan Joint Chamber of Commerce, announced that CPEC may mark a new era in Afghanistan’s economic history, lifting the country out of isolation and turning it into a regional crossroads for trade and transit.

During a meeting held at the office of the Pakistan–China Chamber of Commerce and Industry, he said expansion of economic cooperation among regional countries and Afghanistan’s connection to the project will not only enhance the country’s transit capacity, but also create opportunities for attracting infrastructure investments, developing facilities, and improving regional connectivity.

Iqbal further noted that Central Asian countries such as Uzbekistan and Tajikistan are also planning to utilize Gwadar Port, and Afghanistan can serve as a crucial link between Central Asia, South Asia, and the Middle East through this route.

“Afghanistan is no longer a landlocked country; by joining the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor, it will become a significant trade corridor in the region,” He concluded.
