Afghanistan Caretaker Government, Uzbekistan Sign Key Power Supply Deal

DID Press: Continuing regional efforts to improve Afghanistan’s infrastructure, Afghanistan electricity company (Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat) signed four major electricity transmission agreements with Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Energy.

According to Breshna, the new agreement will implement four large-scale projects that will supply electricity to 11 provinces, including Kabul, Kandahar, Baghlan, Nangarhar, Laghman, Logar, Khost, Paktia, Paktika, Ghazni, and Zabul.

The centerpiece of these projects is the 500 kv Surkhan–Dasht-e Alwan transmission line and the expansion of Dasht-e Alwan substation. Other components include the 220 kv Kabul–Nangarhar line and Sheikh Mesri substation in Nangarhar province.

Once completed, these projects will increase Kabul’s electricity capacity to approximately 1,500 megawatts, helping alleviate power shortages in the capital as well as in southern and eastern Afghanistan, said officials from Breshna.
